The Paducah Propeller Club’s Maritime Person of the Year award recognizes individuals who have made a meaningful impact on the marine transportation industry.
Randy was selected for this award because of his involvement in industry groups and the role he plays in bringing people together to solve challenges. He’s been a strong voice in the industry and a consistent advocate for both mariners and operational improvement.
Ron Schneider, Director of Reliability and board member of the Paducah Propeller Club
Randy has spent decades in the marine industry and has held a Master’s license for 29 years. He began working shoreside as a Port Captain in 2011 and was promoted to Director of River Operations in 2015, before advancing to Vice President of Northern Vessel Operations in 2023.
He has remained actively engaged in industry leadership throughout his career, including serving as Chairman of the Lower Mississippi River Committee (LOMRC) and representing ACBL on the River Industry Executive Task Force (RIETF). In 2023, Randy was awarded the U.S. Coast Guard’s Certificate of Merit, one of the highest honors given to a civilian.
While being nominated for this award is very humbling, being selected by the committee is a complete surprise. Although our companies compete commercially, from a navigation standpoint we collaborate closely to maximize the movement of commerce during periods of river restrictions. Receiving this award is a testament to the teams I work with every day, and even though I’m honored to represent our industry in various capacities with the USCG and USACOE, it’s even more rewarding to represent ACBL.
Randy Chamness, Vice President of Northern Vessel Operations
That same approach to collaboration and industry engagement carries into how Randy leads within ACBL.
Randy is a respected leader within ACBL and across the industry. He has built that reputation through his experience, integrity, and his respected involvement in support of the industry. He is a true professional that supports mariners and the industry in which they work. His leadership has set a high bar for performance at ACBL, both on the water and ashore. It’s an honor to work with someone so talented and committed to excellence. This recognition reflects the standard he sets and the role he continues to play in moving both ACBL and the industry forward.
Peter Coxon, Chief Executive Officer
Randy will be formally recognized at the Paducah Propeller Club’s awards ceremony in May, an honor that reflects the respect he’s earned across the industry and the impact of his work over time.
